EUGENE VAN ERVEN

Picture
Creating New Kinships Through Community Theatre

International community-based theater artists Eugene van Erven and Kate Gardner explore cross-cultural dialogue through two theatre projects developed from the content of everyday community life, in the Netherlands and in a U.S. - Kenya connection. Through the artistic process, community members come to view each other in more nuanced ways and build strong relationships across ethnic, political, and religious divides. The authors illuminate the power of theatre, "for teaching people from all walks of life that they can transform their lives - painful and traumatic as they may be - into something moving, beautiful, comical, and spectacular."
